A businessman accused of keeping his wholesale place open despite previous warnings was ordered to keep it shut by the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Zubair Akoojee, 31, of Whitepark Road, St Michael, denied he contravened Paragraph (3), Subparagraph (1) of the Emergency Management COVID-19 Protocols Special Curfew No. 3 Directive 2021, in that there being a directive requiring every person to observe such social distancing and associated protocols in the interest of public health imposed from February 3 to 17, being the owner of a non-essential service not permitted in the directive, namely Premier Wholesale, he failed to remain closed on Monday.

Prosecutor Sergeant Victoria Taitt did not object to bail but asked the court to warn the accused to adhere to the protocols and to keep his business closed.

“Why we are asking the court to advise the accused to remain closed is that he has had many warnings before and we believe that this next warning should come from the court, seeing the information reaching the prosecution was that he was open again this morning [Monday],” she said. (HLE)
