The number of active COVID-19 cases in Barbados is now at 746.

Forty-two people were diagnosed with the viral illness on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, from 829 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, while there were 79 recoveries.

The 42 positive cases comprised 24 women and 18 men, eight of whom were already at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility in St Lucy undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed they were newly positive, or had COVID in the past and were no longer infectious. The other 34 cases were Barbadians.

Barbados has recorded 2 949 confirmed cases – 1 369 females and 1 580 males – and 2 171 people have recovered.  There were 32 deaths from the viral illness.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 123 470 tests.

Meanwhile, 3 501 people were vaccinated on Wednesday as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19. To date, 25 578 vaccinations were administered, 11 155 men and 14 423 women. (BGIS)
