23 new COVID cases, 54 recoveries

There were 23 new positive cases of COVID-19 recorded on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 while 54 people recovered and were released from isolation.

The positive cases were identified from among the 742 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, bringing the number of active cases to 520.

One person died, an 82-year-old Barbadian man, who spent five days at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility in St Lucy.  His passing brings the number of COVID-19 deaths to 37.

The 23 new cases comprise eight men and 15 women, 11 of whom were already at  Harrison Point to determine whether they were newly positive or had COVID-19 in the past and were no longer infectious. The other 12 are Barbadians.

Barbados has recorded 3 163 confirmed cases – 1 488 females and 1 675 males – and 2 606 persons recovered.  The public health laboratory has so far completed 127 571 tests.

On Tuesday, 2 097 people were vaccinated as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19. To date, 43 235 vaccinations were administered to 18 316 men and 24 919 women. (BGIS)
