Venezuelans Niconaty Jose Guerra Guerra and Pedro Antonio Cabrera Sifonte may no longer be before the court after they were turned over to immigration officials, but the matter of their money still is.

And the Court of Appeal has ordered the Magistrates’ Court to hear the application, made by police, to have the US$30 310 and 5 000 Bolivars forfeited.

Tradesmen Guerra, 33, of Caracas, and Sifonte, 36, of Delta Amacuro, Venezuela, first appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court in February, 2020, when they pleaded guilty to entering Barbados by sea, other than at a port of entry, sometime between October 1, 2019, and February 16, 2020, and disembarking without the consent of an immigration officer.

Barbados’ Immigration officials had no record of them ever entering the country but Drug Squad officers and members of the Coast Guard caught them in a speed boat in the waters off Weston, St James. The money was in the boat and the two said it was theirs. (HLE)
