Message in recognition of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2021, from the Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BBCI)
Bridgetown – The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) joins the global community in challenging inequity and stereotypes in the workplace.
The challenge to businesses across all sectors to continuously strive for gender equity was issued by BCCI executive director, Misha Lobban-Clarke in recognition of International Women’s Day 2021.
“As we celebrate our achievements and strides, we also acknowledge that ‘an equal world is an enabled world’. We therefore challenge our collective efforts to bolster gender equality in all spheres in the interest of building and sustaining a more harmonised workplace, community and society,” Lobban-Clarke stated.
“As we #ChooseToChallenge in the face of the challenges being experienced globally, the BCCI recognises the women who support the advancement of the goals of the Barbados Chamber and those who have, and continue to play, a key role in contributing to the development of business and the wider private sector in Barbados,” Lobban-Clarke added.
The executive director saluted the women of industry in all sectors, asking members of the local business community to additionally challenge gender stereotypes and bias through daily actions and decision-making.
The Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry was established in 1825 as the voice of the diverse business sector in Barbados.
The Chamber seeks to influence through advocacy, to create sustainable economic progress for Barbados.
June Clarke was elected as the first female President in 1978. Mrs Trisha Tannis is the current president and its council, and committees reflect balanced and equitable gender involvement. (PR)
