Barbados Cup called off again

Barbados’ premier youth football tournament, the Barbados Cup, will not be held for the second consecutive year.

This was the grave assessment delivered by director of the tournament George LasCaris during a telephone interview with NATION SPORT on Tuesday.

The tournament, held since 1987 around the Easter holiday break, was cancelled last year one week before the scheduled start date and because of the continued pause on sporting activity on the island, LasCaris is not optimistic this year’s edition would be held.

“In reality, we don’t see the Barbados Cup being played this year. Even if we get permission today, a tournament like this takes months to organise,” he explained. (NM)
