Ivy gunman gets 13 years

Gunman Jamel Omar Sinclair Ashby, who shot through a house causing those inside to scamper and a woman to pick up her children and run was sentenced to thirteen-and-a-half years in prison when he reappeared in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday.

“You cannot be walking about firing shots at people. Make something of your life,” Justice Randall Worrell told Ashby.

The 29-year-old, of Rogers Road, The Ivy, St Michael, pleaded guilty at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings to using a firearm without a licence; damaging a van belonging to Ronnie Cooke; and unlawfully and maliciously engaging in conduct that placed Che Yearwood, Crystal Cottle and Karen Johnson in danger of death or serious bodily harm on May 28, 2014.

He also confessed he used a firearm while not having a licence and that he unlawfully and maliciously engaged in conduct which placed Winfield Cooke, Ramario Alleyne, Raheem Cottle, Romell Ifill, Kaneel Moseley and Ercilla Grazette in danger of death or serious bodily harm, all on June 15, 2014.
