Imagine living in a place that you can genuinely call your sanctuary – where you can escape to a blissful home. Tranquil. Picturesque. Charmingly upscale. Your haven where every amenity is a quick stroll away. A beautiful, sprawling gated community nestled snugly in Boarded Hall, St George, in a locale that offers the best blend of cosmopolitan life with country charm.

Imagine being able to go for runs or walks along lush, tree-lined trails that boast mahogany trees, wooded foliage and vegetation that’s uniquely Barbadian.

Now imagine being able to purchase a contemporary condominium, whether you’re single, or a couple in your 40’s, or baby boomers looking to downsize after your children have left home. Perhaps you are retired, returning to the island, and you are looking for something that does not require the upkeep of a traditional home but is modern in style and feel. Imagine not having to mow the lawn, cut the hedges, but just merely relaxing in a garden bigger than you’d ever imagined.

Sagicor tapped into something when they acquired the 32-acres of land for the $206-million investment that is The Estates. Some call the idea innovative, but for the insurance company, it was so much more. It is a uniquely Barbadian project utilising local architects, builders and providing more than 200 construction jobs.

“Sagicor has decided at the corporate level that it is giving back to Barbados,” says Ezra Prescod, Vice President, Project Development at Sagicor. “What we are doing is offering a residential experience that’s not available in Barbados. This experience is living in an enclosed, secure community in which you can live a lifestyle that’s wellness-focused but live it in a community atmosphere where you can live where you love and love where you live”.

With an on-site medical complex that will offer 24-hour access to medical care, the community will also provide many amenities. These will include a pool, clubhouse, tennis courts, an English pub, vast green spaces with integrated trails and meditative areas, an organic vegetable garden, a restaurant, pub and coffee shop, a pharmacy, convenience store. There is a whole lot to love about The Estates.

That is why even though they are now into Phase 1 of construction, they have sold 40 per cent of the 88 residential units available at this time. With the condominiums ranging from $346 009 to $847 000BDS, these properties represent an attractive value proposition for prospective buyers.

“Being able to go running or walking in a secure 14-acre green space, going to the pool or the clubhouse, or going to a fine dining restaurant or coffee shop all within walking distance, is truly a resort-style lifestyle, but at an affordable cost to Barbadians. These residences and facilities present a unique opportunity to age in place while having the best opportunity for an active, exciting lifestyle,” Prescod added.

The Estates is designed as a home that you can grow old in, where you don’t have to be afraid of advancing in years, ageing alone, or having to move from a home environment that you’ve grown to love. You can be comforted by the fact that even in advanced years, you can have supportive services inclusive of health specialists ready to provide round-the-clock care to cater to your every need.

“I think we’re looking to be a trailblazer in setting a standard where you can live comfortably in a high-rise condominium as opposed to the customary three-bedroom home,” said Prescod. “The key things when you buy a home are to ensure that you are secure, you are comfortable, and your family and friends can come to visit in an environment where they too are comfortable. In terms of the designs that we have provided, we have done a great job in achieving exactly the look and feel of the traditional Barbadian home.”

All of the buildings at The Estates are being built to adhere to local laws and regulations and in some cases, more stringent international codes and standards. More importantly, all the spaces will conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards for accessible design.

When asked what makes The Estates unique, Prescod responded: “The unrivalled views, the green-spaces, level of amenities available, sense of community and the elegantly-designed units, are the most significant factors that make The Estates at St George truly unique from any other development in the region,” Prescod continued “As you get older, you are going to want to go to the doctor, and there’s a medical complex here. In the community context, there is a clubhouse, restaurant, English pub, tennis courts, the coffee shop, all areas that permit good wholesome interaction. All these amenities being within walking distance means, when you get home, you do not have to leave.”

There is no other way to say it; the Estates is a community designed to let you live life to the fullest.
