More than $3 million will be spent to repair and refurbish the East Wing of the Parliament Buildings.
This was disclosed in the House of Assembly today by Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Dr William Duguid, in a Ministerial Statement in which he also said work on this section of the 147-year-old buildings should be completed by September 30.
Duguid said the ongoing project involved among other things, the removal of mould from the walls of the building as well as removal of asbestos from the roofing.
He also identified replacement of the air-conditioning system, IT cabling and electrical rewiring of the entire East Wing as well as upgrading of the “aged and obsolete” camera, video and communications system, work which he said resulted in an increase in the costs from $700 000. (GC)
