The Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) remains closed until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

That was confirmed by GAIA’s Chief Executive Officer Hadley Bourne. He said at that time an assessment on conditions will be conducted to determine whether it would be be feasible to reopen.

“We will do an assessment in the morning based on the conditions, advice from MET (Barbados Meteorological Office) and then we will decide. At this point in time, we’re closed until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning,” he said.

Only authorised essential airport personnel will be allowed access to the airport during this time.

Bourne told Nation Online all systems were offline in an effort to protect them from the ashfall caused by the plumes following an eruption from the La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday. (RA)
