The eruption of La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines has apparently dealt a major blow to Government’s plan for a phased return of Barbadian students to the physical classroom next week.
The MIDWEEK NATION understands that following a meeting between Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw and stakeholders yesterday, a decision was taken that even online classes would be suspended pending further monitoring of the volcanic activity, which has blanketed Barbados with ash in recent days.
A source close to the development revealed that this was expected to be communicated to the country by Bradshaw later this week.
“Coming out of the meeting, the decision was taken that no teaching or online learning will take place next week. It was taken into consideration that parents, teachers and children are not going to be in a position to even go outside to take a breather. (CLM)
