President of the Democratic Labour Party, Verla De Peiza, has finally made her choice of a constituency to run in during the next general election.

The attorney-at-law revealed on the Sunday Brasstacks radio programme earlier today that she would be contesting the next election, constitutionally due in 2023, by running in St Lucy.

De Peiza, who is yet to earn a victory at the polls, had losses in 2013 to Dr Maria Agard, and again in 2018 to current Minister of Housing, William Duguid, who both ran on Barbados Labour Party tickets.

That means the next clash in that constituency will be one of homegrown candidates. De Peiza was raised in Northumberland, St Lucy, while incumbent Peter Phillips is also from the island’s most northerly parish.

De Peiza made the revelation while part of a DLP panel on the programme, and also revealed that former senator Andre Worrell, and first vice-president of the party, Ryan Walters would contest the election in the St John and St Michael North West constituencies.

Both those constituencies, once considered DLP strongholds, were wrestled from the Dems in 2018, when the Barbados Labour Party completed a resounding 30-0 win at the polls. (BA)
