Members of the Rotaract Club of Barbados have been busy over the past few weeks gathering relief supplies for the people of St Vincent following the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano.
The Club has diligently been able to raise more than $5 000 and negotiate the donation of clean water and other essentials.
“The first phase of the relief efforts was focused on the donation of clothing and clean water through a partnership with Vincentians and other partners of Oxygen Mas Band in Barbados,” a media release from the Club said.
The Club was able to donate 460 pieces of clothing for children and adults with fellow Rotaract Clubs of UWI Cave Hill and Barbados West.
The Club said it also donated more than 100 five-litre bottles of water and close to a thousand 500-millilitre bottles of water, and it assisted the joint Rotary Clubs of St. Vincent with the purchase of an 800-gallon water tank.
The Club said the second phase of relief efforts yielded a supply of personal care items for mothers and children to the Pink Parliament and The Lady Box Project’s “Pink Box Project”.
The Club said it also made a contribution of $2,000 to the Rotary District 7030 Disaster Relief Fund through its sponsor club, Rotary Club of Barbados. (AR)
