NY Traffic is back with a bang following a well- deserved seven-month break from a gruelling 2020 America Triple Crown Campaign.
The Saffie Joseph Jr-trained four-year-old roan colt rolled into Belmont Park on Sunday and demolished Allowance Optional Claiming sprinters over seven furlongs by six and three-quarter lengths.
Ridden by champion jockey Irad Ortiz Jr, Ny Traffic took up a stalking position outside of the leader Golani Brigade, who ran the first quarter- mile in 22.74 seconds and the half-mile in 45.43 seconds. Ny Traffic then turned up the pressure on Golani Brigade, forcing him to relinquish his advantage with the home turn approaching.
Going much the best, Ny Traffic proceeded to cross the winning line in 1:21.52 minutes from Control Group, Bourbon Bay and Microscope, who all went past Golani Brigade to capture the next three positions in that order of the day’s second race. (LY)
