A 35-YEAR-OLD MOTHER is claiming she and her two-year-old son are being restricted against her will at the Enmore medical facility after refusing to undergo a nasal swab for COVID-19 at the nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

However, the hospital is defending its actions, saying that an individual’s choices have to be balanced against the protection of others in the continued fight against the deadly virus.

Samantha Jordan told the DAILY NATION that last Thursday morning she took her two-year-old son to Sandy Crest Medical Centre in St James when he began wheezing. He was nebulised three times, she added, but appeared not to be getting better, and they were transferred to the QEH via ambulance.

Jordan said they were taken to an isolation room in the asthma bay. One doctor checked her son before another arrived with swabs. She added that during the triage period, she was never informed that she and the boy would have to take a PCR test. (RA)
