Gunmen warned of tough stance

Gunmen have been warned not to believe that they will only get fines for having their illegal weapons.

Once the backlog of gun cases has been cleared, said Justice Carlisle Greaves, the courts will once again be adopting a hard-line stance against gun offenders.

“After this backlog is cleaned up, you might find them (the courts) not as merciful as they are today. When all these old cases get cleaned up you might find that,” Justice Greaves said yesterday.

“We don’t want to give people the impression that it is going to be this way all the time because men will walk around with money in their pocket – got the gun in one pocket and the money in the next pocket and they don’t give a hoot because they know they are not going to jail.

“We are not going to encourage that in this country (because) the men would got the money buried waiting in case they got caught,” he said(HLE)
