Three nursing students were this morning awarded the Ramona Mascoll Memorial Scholarship.

The three, Andre Maloney, Nikita Roberts-Kirton, and Ashia Best, were chosen to receive the awards, sponsored by CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, at the Pom Marine Hotel, Hastings, Christ Church.

The scholarships, valued at $2 000 each, will cover the students’ registration fees at the Barbados Community College (BCC), books and uniforms as they transition to the second year where they will begin their clinical studies.

Principal of the BCC, Annette Alleyne, said she was pleased the college could contribute to the shortfall of nurses in Barbados. The college currently has 384 students enrolled in the nursing programme.

Nurse Ramona Mascoll, who worked on Ward B5 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and for whom the scholarship was named, passed away on Valentine’s Day after losing her fight with COVID-19. (RA)
