Hat-trick for Saffie

It was a three-win Saturday for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr at Gulfstream Park inclusive of a pair of US$75 000 Stakes races in Hallandale Beach Florida.

He collected Stakes victories with Moonlight Strike and Shifty She while La Dame completed Joseph’s hat-trick.

The three-year-old bay colt Moonlight Strike at odds of 7/1 upset his two fancied stablemates Lauda Speed and Collaborate to capture Race 4, the Roars Stakes. Winning jockey Edgar Zayas had the colt positioned outside the race leader Warrior’s Pride in the six and one half furlongs event before wresting the lead on the way to a three and quarter lengths success in 1:17.15 minutes.

Joseph’s 2/1 choice Lauda Speed rallied outside but was no match for the winner and had to settle for second place ahead of the overwhelming favourite Collaborate. That result gave Joseph the top three positions in the first of the day two Stakes events. (LY)
