After more than three decades, the flagship store of Material Things, which specialised in casual clothing and beachwear, has fallen to the ravages of COVID-19.

Owner Michael Allamby posted on social media the closing of the store which brought immediate reaction from loyal shoppers and sympathisers.

He told the DAILY NATION it was strictly a financial decision to close the store located in the City Centre complex in Bridgetown.

“It is as a result of the financial downturn in the retail industry. COVID has impacted a lot of businesses and I had to make a decision on whether I was willing to wait it out and throw more resources at it, which would cause me more financial exposure eventually, and I made the decision that it would not have been worth it,” Allamby said.
