Barbados’ tourism is set to experience a soft summer period while the sector seeks to rebuild from the heavy blow dealt by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief executive officer of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) Senator Rudi Grant said today it is currently “a very challenging time” for tourism as Barbados remains on the UK’s amber list of countries for British travel.
Speaking during a virtual press briefing, Grant revealed that hotel occupancy in April was around 15 per cent and had only improved slightly. He indicated this trend would continue throughout the summer.
However the picture for the winter is more hopeful, as the BTA executive projected a turn-around for the winter season going into 2022, reporting that bookings were “very good”.
Grant also anticipated most of the tourism enterprises would reopen in time for the winter season. (GC)
