Bridgetown – The Barbados-based Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) says it has engaged regional governments and other stakeholders on the conception and planning of the 2021 regional examinations.
In a statement, the CXC said that it is “enriched” by the dialogues with ministers of education and other government officials, teachers and students and is proceeding in this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to provide quality examinations to our students.
It said governance committees, which are comprised of regional government representatives, are reviewing recommendations on CXC’s 2021 regional examination strategy that emanated from these consultations and the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Council of Human and Social Development (COHSOD) 28th Special session on May 12 this year.
CXC said that its School Examinations Committee (SEC) met last Friday to consider and advise on the strategy for 2021 regional examinations and on Tuesday, the CXC governing Council will meet to discuss and approve final examinations and procedures for 2021.
“By latest Wednesday, 26 May 2021, a press release will be disseminated, and a press conference will be held, to update the public on these decisions,” the CXC said.
Last week, Trinidad and Tobago’s Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadbsy-Dolly confirmed that 402 secondary school students have applied to defer writing the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CAPE) exams in 2022.
The Education Minister said of the 402 from secondary school students, 201 are from public schools, 182 from private candidates and 26 from private, registered schools.
The CXC, established in 1972 by Caribbean Community (CARICOM) governments, is a regional examining body that provides examinations for secondary and post-secondary candidates in Caribbean countries. It offers a wide range of subjects in academic, technical and vocational areas for candidates of varying ages, abilities and interests from the English-speaking Caribbean and the Netherlands Antilles and Suriname.
