Government yesterday defended its land policy amidst criticism from Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley.
During debate on two land resolutions in the House of Assembly, Atherley charged that the current administration’s approach to dealing with land issues was “ad hoc” and did not fully take into account the land and housing needs of the average Barbadian.
“We have to bring as a moral responsibility and as a principal obligation of Government the majority of people into ownership in Barbados, and when you talk ownership you talking ownership of capital and ownership of land,” he said.
Minister of Housing and Lands Dr William Duguid sought to refuted his claims, arguing that Government was doing a lot to provide housing solutions for Barbadians at all levels. (GC)
