Whether it’s called domestic violence or intimate partner violence, no one has the right to put their hands on any person.
So said Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes as he remanded Jason Omar Hinds after he admitted beating a woman because she “disrespected” him.
Hinds, 40, of Broomfield, St Lucy, was in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman on June 4.
“In the face of everything and the fact that we are trying to teach men that women aren’t property, you decide to put your hand on her?” Chief Magistrate Weekes asked Hinds.
“Have you ever heard of domestic violence? It is now called intimate partner violence. Nobody can put their hand on anybody.” (HLE)
