Former Barbados captain and West Indies opener, Desmond Haynes and deceased former Windies pacer, Sir Learie Constantine were inducted into the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Hall of Fame on Sunday.
The ICC, the sport’s World governing body, announced that Haynes, 65, and Sir Learie will join the list of 18 other fellow, former West Indies players to receive the honour.
Haynes becomes the ninth Barbadian to be named in the Hall of Fame, along with Joel Garner, Sir Gordon Greenidge, Sir Wes Hall, Malcolm Marshall, Sir Garfield Sobers, Courtney Walsh, Sir Clyde Walcott, Sir Everton Weekes and Sir Frank Worrell.
He was one of the most successful opening batsmen in the history of the game and formed a durable partnership with Sir Gordon.
Haynes played 116 Test matches and scored 7,487 runs, including 18 hundred, at an average of 42.3. He also made 8,648 runs in 238 One-Day Internationals, which included 17 hundreds.
He was also a member of the West Indies team that won the second World Cup in 1979.
