The new water tankers are not an indication there is no end in sight to Barbados’ water woes, says Minister in the Ministry of Water Resources Charles Griffith.
He said 32 new tankers were in the island with a further five expected by month-end, but despite some rumblings about them only being there to keep trucking water to communities suffering poor supply, the end game was much broader.
“I have heard the talk . . . [but] Government is being proactive. The 12 tankers we have now are not adequate to serve everyone in need and while the new tankers will [address] those parishes, the bigger pie is that they will assist the whole island in case of an emergency situation,” he said on Sunday.
Griffith said a major weather system could knock out electricity and cause the Barbados Water Authority’s (BWA) water pumps to stop working, and this was when the new tankers would come into play. (CA)
