Tropical wave to bring rain, thunderstorms

The Barbados Meteorological Services continues to monitor a tropical wave located several hundred miles east of Barbados.

Last night and into this morning, satellite imagery showed increased areas of disorganized showers and thunderstorms associated with the weather system. However, moisture and instability well ahead of the axis will bring some occasional showers and possible isolated thunderstorms from this afternoon.

Total rainfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible from that time up to Thursday.

There are presently no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados. However, current model analysis is consistently suggesting that environmental conditions remain marginal for tropical cyclone development over the next 24 to 36 hours. Beyond 36 hours, upper-level winds are forecast to become unfavourable for development.

This system is forecast to track west to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph over the next few days. Model data indicates that most of the shower activity associated with the tropical wave should pass mainly to the north of Barbados from late Thursday into Friday.

The next update is scheduled for 6 p.m. today.
