CASTRIES – The main opposition St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) was leading in most of the constituencies as counting continued following the general elections held here earlier on Monday.

Political strategist and director of the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services (CADRES), Peter Wickham, speaking on television here, said that the results seem to show a “significantly greater swing that I had expected from the ruling party.

“As it stands now, the swing is in double digits and the United Workers Party (UWP) would have to do very well to try and contain that swing,” Wickham said, acknowledging that the SLP have been winning “in every singly constituency”.

In the 2016 general election, the UWP won 11 of the 17 seats with the SLP winning the remainder.

The two independent candidates, including former prime minister Stephenson King, seem to be in line to create history, winning the Castries North and Castries Central seats respectively. (CMC)
