Highway 1 has reopened, and road works which started last November have been completed, short of some snagging to be done within the next two to three weeks.
Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Ian Gooding-Edghill, led a tour of sections of the road on Saturday.
Accompanying him were Minister in the Ministry of Water Resources, Charles Griffith; project leader and deputy Chief Technical Officer Philip Tudor, and other officials.
Gooding-Edghill noted the project had a budgeted cost of $15.2 million. However, he said, Tudor would advise him of the total cost at a later date, as evaluations still had to be completed by the quantity surveyors in the ministry.
The Minister noted the complexity of the project, which took 26 weeks to be completed, and thanked the residents in the area for their patience while the highway, from the Frank Worrell Roundabout to Seaview Road in Holetown, was repaved.
Additionally, all the utility companies also installed cables so as to allow for the utilities to be run underground going forward.
Snagging is the process of checking building works and compiling a list of unsatisfactory or outstanding works to be done. Â (RA)
