Four outstanding Barbadians from St Philip were honoured with a “piece of the rock” to mark their contributions to nation building.

During an unveiling ceremony at Three Houses Park in St Philip recently, Wynter Crawford, Hilda Skeene, Dorothy Hinkson and Florence Daysh were recognised for their significant work in the development of Barbados through having their names engraved in a boulder at the park.

The commemorative event was part of the St Philip Parish Independence Committee’s Piece Uh De Rock campaign, itself part of its parish project for 2021. Parish Ambassadors Leticia Hunte and Jonathan Carrington said a number of St Philip natives contributed to national development and it was important to recognise them.

“Our project this year, Culture For We, has sought to keep shining the light on our parish as a symbolic and cultural artefact of our Bajan culture,” Hunte said.

“By establishing pillars of heritage, cuisine, entertainment and socialisation, the project seeks to fully showcase our ‘Philipine’ culture. (SB)
