The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is ready for its 66th annual conference, declares general secretary Damien Griffith.

While internal elections get started today at 10 a.m. and continue again tomorrow, the format for the conference was changed to include public rallies on Wednesday and last night, with another scheduled for 7 o’clock tonight, along with a report from the executive council.

All activities take place at the party’s George Street, Belleville, St Michael headquarters.

Incumbent president Verla De Peiza, in her note in the 20-page conference booklet, stated: “This may very well be our last annual conference before we face the nation for a general election,” adding this was the main reason for the change to allow for the public rallies so members could hear from candidates and spokespeople on “issues of the day”.

Griffith told the Weekend Nation that after the results are officially announced on Sunday, the “uniting” among members “will happen”. He urged members to respect the election results and “go forward as a party”. (GBM)
