Kingston – West Indies slumped to 123 for eight at lunch, replying to Pakistan’s first innings total of 302 for nine declared, on the fourth day of the second Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
The Windies lost five wickets – three to Mohammad Abbas and two to fellow pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi – after they resumed from their overnight total of 39 for three.
At the interval, Jason Holder was not out on eight and Barbados Pride teammate Kemar Roach was yet to score.
Left-arm pacer Afridi has been the pick of the Pakistani bowlers so far with 4-40 from 15 overs, taking his tally of scalps to a series-leading 12, and Abbas supported with 3-29 from 16 overs.
The Caribbean side suffered the expected early loss of nightwatchman Alzarri Joseph off Afridi for four in the fourth of the day.
Jermaine Blackwood joined fellow Jamaican Nkrumah Bonner, and they stitched together a stand of 60 for the fifth wicket to carry the hosts past 100 and ensured that the Pakistanis will have to bat again in the contest.
But West Indies lost Bonner for 37, left-hander Kyle Mayers first ball for his third straight duck in the series, and Blackwood for 33 in the space of eight deliveries from Abbas in the final hour before lunch.
Joshua da Silva also fell to Afridi for six in the last half-hour before the interval to tighten the visitors’ grip on the match.
West Indies lead the two-Test series 1-0 after a one-wicket victory inside four days in the first Test, which was also played behind closed doors at the same venue.
