The man who was charged with making a false report to police was granted bail and given a new date after appearing in Court today.

Dave Orlando Maynard, 38 years, of Lashley Road, Fitts Village, St James, pleaded not guilty in the Holetown Magistrates Court before Magistrate Wayne Clarke.

He was granted bail in the sum of $5 000 with one surety and is scheduled to reappear at the same court on September 23, 2021.

Maynard was charged that on June 1, he caused the wasteful employment of the police by knowingly making a false report tending to show that an offence was committed, namely robbery.

On May 29, the accused told his father, who is a police officer, that he was robbed at gunpoint in Speightstown, St Peter.

His father then made a public appeal on the radio in which he referred to the incident involving his son. The matter was highlighted in a section of the media and formally reported to the police on June 1.

Both formal and internal investigations were launched into the matter. They showed that Maynard made false reports to the police and he was subsequently arrested and charged for the offence. (PR/SAT)

Editor’s Note: Updated to change fine to bail.
