The highly infectious Delta variant is causing the Ministry of Health to re-evaluate its approach to the COVID-19 virus.
Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic said that while the situation was not out of control, the nature of the new strain meant they could not continue doing things the same way.
“The Delta variant brings something new into the equation; while the old rules stated we would not change the directives unless there is a five per cent or more [population] infection, I’m sure that will be modified,” he said.
Bostic was speaking to the media yesterday following a ceremony for the arrival of 33 600 doses of AstraZeneca, the third and final batch of the vaccine from the COVAX facility, at the Grantley Adams International Airport. It was attended by representatives of the European Union, United States, Japan, Britain, Canada and the United Nations (UN). (CA)
