Acting DPP: Don’t be swayed by defence

It’s not about politics; it’s not about class; it’s not about colour.

It’s simply about whether the jury believes that accused Marlon Hosea Carrington had a legitimate reason to have the $50 000 police found in his car nine years ago, said acting Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale.

“This is not a political meeting in Oistins. We are in the courts of Barbados. I am not putting race against race, class against class, ‘only black people is get charge, only poor people is get charge’.

“I am not interested in that because at the end of the day many people give you the impression they care about the poor, but haven’t walked a mile in their shoes, not even a half mile,” the senior prosecutor said yesterday.

Seale made the comments as he gave his closing address when Carrington’s money laundering trial continued in the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday. (HLE)
