BECKENHAM – Teddy Bishop was left stranded short of a century, underlining West Indies Under-19s disappointment and they crashed to a one-wicket defeat to England Under-19s in the second Youth One-Day International yesterday on the tour of England.
Bishop, 18, hit a glowing 97 off 104 balls before the Windies Under-19s were dismissed for 180 in 39.3 overs, and though they excellently defended the modest total, the Caribbean side stumbled to their second successive defeat in the six-match series.
West Indies looked sure bets to win when they reduced the English U19s to 162 for nine in the 35th over, but a 19-run last-wicket stand between Fateh Singh and Nathan Barnwell frustrated the visitors and took England over the line with 72 balls remaining.
Pacer Isai Thorne was again among the wickets with three for 54 from his allotted 10 overs, while left-arm spinner Anderson Mahase grabbed two for 34 from his 10 overs, and the Windies struck at vital times during the run chase. (CMC)
