It’s been just over a week since Anthony Wayne Bovell was granted bail by the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.
Yesterday, he was remanded back to prison pending sentencing.
Bovell, 43, of Franklin Doughlin Road, St Andrew, had just pleaded guilty to entering Divine Ghawdess Naturals, on September 10, and stealing $120 belonging to Akeisha Clarke.
“The last time you appeared before me, when was that?” asked Magistrate Manila Renee.
“The seventh,” Bovell replied.
“The seventh of when?” the magistrate further asked.
“The seventh of this month,” he admitted. “You give me an opportunity to sign up at Verdun House but nobody ain’t helping me with this problem.”
Magistrate Renee remanded him to HMP Dodds until October 14 pending sentencing.
Prosecutor Sergeant Paul Prescod said Bovell walked into the store wearing his mask beneath his nose. The owner spoke to him about the COVID-19 protocols and Bovell left.
He returned moments later wearing his mask properly and proceeded to browse items in the store. He asked the owner for the price of an item and after she had replied, he ordered her to “empty the cash register”, adding: “I have a gun in my bag, I don’t want to hurt you.”
The complainant became distraught and handed over $60. She begged him to at least allow her to keep bus fare but Bovell demanded more money.
She complied and he left. (HLE)
