Despite a few hiccups stemming from technical issues and a lack of electronic devices for some new students, education officials reported a relatively smooth start to the new school year yesterday.
Due to the spike in COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Education determined that school would be online-only for now.
Herbert Gittens, principal of Wesley Hall Junior School, said they did not have enough electronic devices, such as laptops and tablets, for all the students. He called on the public, especially various school alumni, to donate them to the schools.
“It was a long day and it is not over yet. I started at 6:30 a.m. and was dealing with issues until midday. Later [the Barbados Union of Teachers] . . . will go over all the reported issues,” said Gittens, who is also general secretary of the union. (CA)
