Scores of footballers streamed into the Barbados Football Association’s AstroTurf facility in Wildey yesterday to pay respects to former Barbados player Sheridan “Rudy” Grosvenor.

The former Division One player lay in a beautifully designed casket which bore the emblem and colours of his beloved English Premier League side, Arsenal. The top of the casket carried two goal bars and a floral football completed the outlay.

Among those paying tribute was Steve Blackett, former Cabinet minister under the Democratic Labour Party Ggovernment. Many members of Compton, Grosvenor’s last club, were present, as well as his former Barbados Water Authority colleagues.

When Grosvenor’s partner Bonnielyna Chase and son Ronaldhino Grosvenor approached the casket, Ronaldhino had to be consoled as he wept openly for his dad, who is the first footballer to be accorded the honour of such a viewing at the BFA’s headquarters. (KB)
