Business executive Trisha Tannis is the new chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA).

She replaced Ed Clarke, who did not seek re-election to the position, and she is the first female to hold the position.

As chairman, Tannis will lead the umbrella body of private sector associations in Barbados both at the national level and within the Social Partnership of Barbados.

Tannis said her aim was to build on the foundation of strong advocacy and lobbying by the previous heads of the BPSA.

“My objective is to provide dedicated and exemplary leadership on behalf of the private sector, particularly during the unprecedented challenges experienced by the business sector, and the nation generally, as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

Tannis is the managing director of the Unicomer (Barbados) Group that trades as Courts Barbados Ltd and is arguably the largest furniture, appliance and electrical retailer in the island.

She recently served as President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 2019 to 2021, having previously served as Senior Vice President and Chairman of the retail sub-committee of that organisation.

Tannis also previously served as a director of the BPSA for the period 2019 to 2021, representing the Chamber of Commerce.
