Barbados misses 10 000 target

Barbados fell short of the 10 000-target Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley set last week.

Despite the shortfall, one of the coordinators of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand, is still determined to inoculate more Barbadians.

“We are well on our way and I think we will achieve it. Today, many of the sites began with a downpour of rain and we had to change logistics but once that was done, we got off the ground running. And we are very pleased with the response and we hope that people will continue to come forward and get their vaccines,” Ferdinand said yesterday at the Massy complex, Warrens, St Michael.

As positive COVID-19 cases soared, on September 18, Mottley made a plea to the country stating that  if 50 000 individuals (10 000 per week) were vaccinated over five weeks, there could be some ease in restrictions. (TG)
