The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has won a judgment in the Court of Appeal for $86 000 – the highest amount of rental arrears ever owed by a tenant.
Official sources at the state-owned entity told the Sunday Sun that the appellate court made a ruling last Thursday, setting aside a stay imposed by former Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson on an injunction filed by the NHC and ordering the delinquent tenant to pay the outstanding arrears due since 2011.
The court ordered the tenant to pay costs, while also allowing the NHC to take possession of its unit situated at Country Park Towers, Country Road, St Michael.
When contacted, Minister of Housing Dr William Duguid said he was aware the matter was before the court but had not yet been briefed on its outcome.
