The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) says it has zero tolerance for doctors or nurses being assaulted by patients and will be maintaining a close relationship with police to ensure staff are better positioned to take action if needed.
Executive chairman Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland said they were also moving to beef up the security system.
She said most of the efforts to improve security will be concentrated in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department, where three violent assaults have been perpetrated recently on staff. Two nurses and a doctor were struck by patients in the latest attacks.
Bynoe-Sutherland said if it was determined that the people in question were of sound mind but chose to express themselves aggressively or violently towards staff, this behaviour would not be tolerated. (BA)
