A total of 247 positive cases – 111 males and 136 females – are the latest cases of coronavirus (COVID-19). The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory conducted 1 255 tests on Sunday, October 24 and a total of 376 112 tests since March 2020.
The new positive cases comprise 49 people who are under the age of 18, and 198 who are 18 years and older.
There are 788 people in isolation facilities, and 4 952 in home isolation.
Nine deaths were recorded for Sunday – five females, aged 54, 59, 61, 64 and 65, and four males, aged 62, 65, 71 and 93. Two people (one male and one female) were fully vaccinated and seven unvaccinated. Their deaths bring the number of people who have succumbed to the virus to 139, as at October 24.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Barbados has recorded 15 588 confirmed cases (7 547 males and 8 041 females) of COVID-19.
Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 147 118 (64.4 per cent of the eligible population).
A total of 121 827 people (45 per cent of the total population or 53.3 per cent of the eligible population) have received their second doses and are fully vaccinated. The eligible population represents people who are 12 years and older. (MHW/BGIS)
