A significant dust haze advisory remains in effect for Barbados.

Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) said an alert issued today at 10 a.m. will be terminated at 6 a.m. tomorrow or sooner if conditions warrant.

A haze advisory is issued when haze has already or is forecast to reduce visibility to between 5 km and 10km within 36 hours.

“Hazy conditions due to a combination of Saharan dust and volcanic smoke from La Palma, Canary Islands will continue to reduce visibility across Barbados and the surrounding marine area. These conditions are expected to improve by tomorrow morning, with further improvement over the weekend.

“Residents, visitors, and marine users should be prepared to take action, as a significant reduction in visibility is either likely or already occurring,” a statement from BMS said.

Members of the public should verify all information with BMS official sources such as the website, or social media pages before sharing/spreading information to others.
