Queen’s Park testing centre to ease clinics

Officials are hopeful that the new COVID-19 testing centre at Queen’s Park will reduce some of the pressure on the polyclinics.

Major Ryan Smith expressed that view yesterday as he and his team organised seating and set up testing booths inside the Queen’s Park Steel Shed ahead of its opening on Monday.

“There is pressure on the public health system because of the large volume of people who are going to the polyclinics. So this new site is to help to ease some of that pressure and at the same time provide an additional site so people can be tested in an area they can easily get to,” Smith said.

The retired military officer, who also coordinated the COVID-19 testing site at the Grantley Adams International Airport, said after Queen’s Park opens, seven people at a time could be swabbed and seating would be provided for 48 people inside the shed.

By tomorrow, he said a tent would also be set up outside the Steel Shed to cater to additional people. (TG)
