Midnight curfew

Having pressed brakes for the past three months during a deadly third wave of the COVID-19 virus, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley pressed the gas yesterday.

Come tomorrow, Barbadians and visitors to the island will get an extra three hours to work, do business and move about with more freedom.

In a national address from Ilaro Court, Mottley rejigged the country’s daily 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, making it midnight to 5 a.m. for the next four weeks. Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic was also at the press conference.

The Prime Minister said the decision was based on Barbados’ increasing vaccination uptake, which now shows two in every three of those eligible to be inoculated have received at least a first dose of one of three vaccines, and the overall behaviour of the population in the last few weeks. (BA)
