Government has increased the Harrison Point Isolation Facility’s oxygen supply capacity by 80 per cent, as Barbados continues to battle a third wave of the pandemic.

Speaking to the media yesterday following the arrival of two oxygen plants at the Grantley Adams International Airport, executive chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, said that the concentrators would significantly reduce the dependence on private suppliers.

The shipment of the two plants, which cost US$700 000 each, was facilitated by the United States government. Additionally, Barbados received $3 million in personal protective equipment, courtesy of Hope International charity.

Increase in capacity

“Having these two generators allows us to situate them at Harrison Point where they can pipe oxygen straight into the critical care beds that were expanded. So essentially this increases our capacity from 500 litres per minute to 900 litres per minute, which is an 80 per cent increase in capacity. (CLM)
