72-year-old man dies at the beach

A 72-year-old St Michael man was pronounced dead on the scene at Browne’s Beach, St Michael in the area of the Harbour Lights on Saturday around 3:05 p.m.

He is Colis Elon Holder of #33 Parkinson Field, also in the same parish.

According to police, he was in the water with his wife when he got into difficulty and started coughing and swallowing water. Holder, who was using a flotation device, was helped out of the water by his wife. He collapsed on the sand in an unconscious state.

A lifeguard on duty, along with a medical doctor who happened to be at the beach, performed C.P.R until the ambulance personnel arrived. No sign of life was found by the EMT. A medical doctor visited the scene and pronounced death. (PR/SAT)
