Barbadian swimmers Jack Kirby and Danielle Treasure are ready to make big splashes in the pool and capture medals at the inaugural Junior Pan American Games starting tomorrow in Cali, Colombia.

The overseas-based Kirby and Treasure will be joined by fellow aquatic athlete Kelani Talma to make up a 14-member Barbados team for the November 25 to December 5 meet.

Kirby, a 2018 youth Olympian told Midweek Sport he was excited to return to international competition for Barbados.

“It’s always an honour to be selected to represent my country, no matter what time of the year. Thankfully for me, my team and I, at USC, have just begun mid-season racing, setting me up well for this meet. This go around, I’m sticking with the backstroke events, 100 and 200 metres. I am pretty nervous being the top seed in the 100 back but at the same time I’m excited to put my flag on the podium,” Kirby said during an interview.

“In terms of training and preparation, it’s been just over a year since I’ve been seriously affected by COVID-19 regulations and I’d like to say I found my confidence about five months ago and have experienced enough proud events in the pool and weight room to believe in my future success,” he added.

Meantime, Treasure who will be competing in the 100 and 200m backstroke events, said her training ahead of the competition has been going great. (AGB)
