The Bajan Gems landed in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday morning after nine and a half hours of flying, with coach Margaret Cutting immediately taking steps to prepare for the upcoming two netball tests against their hosts.
After leaving the comfort of 28-degree temperatures in Barbados, the Gems reached Scotland to contend with a temperature of 5 degrees and a four-hour time difference.
The coaching staff of Cutting, Adrian Craigwell and Desmond Grant took the players on a walk to help them adjust to the conditions.
“A number of the girls would have the experience of touring countries with weather like this as well as travelling for days to then make that adjustment to go on court and give their best when they would normally be at home in their beds,” Cutting told Weekend Sport on arrival.
“We only have tomorrow (today) set aside as an acclimatising day so that is why even before checking into our rooms, we took the girls on a walk. We were trying to keep them awake so that they can break the sleep cycle from home to quickly adjust to the time zone over here,” noted Cutting. (KB)
